Potential data security incident
Posted on 18 June 2018
Last week we were made aware of a data security incident with one of our human resources technology providers, PageUp, which is impacting a large number of Australian companies.
We understand this is a concerning time for employees and job candidates and can assure them that we take their privacy extremely seriously and are prioritising investigations into this incidents with PageUp.
We have continued to monitor the situation closely including attending a number of PageUp briefing sessions given to the Joint Cyber Security Centre and its other customers regarding the incident, and requesting specific information from PageUp in relation to the impact on nib candidates.
At this stage, PageUp’s investigation into this incident is still ongoing; however, they have stated that the PageUp platform has now been secured.
PageUp’s forensic experts have identified that some personal data has been accessed by an unauthorised person and possibly disclosed:
The compromised data may include contact information (name, email address, physical address, and telephone number), biographical details (gender, date of birth, nationality) and employment details at the time of application.
In addition, references that were included with an applicant’s information including contact information were also impacted. It is recommended that applicants who may have included a referee’s details advise them of the incident.
Importantly, PageUp has advised that it is confident that the most critical data categories including resumes, financial information, Australian tax file numbers and employment contracts are not affected in this incident.
We recommend employees and candidates check to ensure that there has been no recent unusual activity concerning their personal information and maintain a close watch on the use of their personal information.
We will provide updates as further information becomes available from PageUp as a result of their investigations. Our careers page will be the central source for any updates on this incident, however, we are here to help with any enquiries. Candidates are encouraged to contact us email@example.com or check the FAQ if they have any questions.

nib uses PageUp to manage job applications and candidate information across the nib Group (including Australia, New Zealand, GU Health and World Nomads Group businesses) and has been doing so since April 2016.
In the interests of protecting employee and candidate privacy, nib has suspended its use of the PageUp system, including our careers website, until we can fully understand the nature and extent of the security incident and possible data breach.
We take the privacy of our employees and candidates extremely seriously and are prioritising investigations into this incident and its potential impact.
At this stage, PageUp have yet to confirm if any personal information of nib employees or applicants has been compromised.
As a precautionary measure, nib has had PageUp re-set all passwords to nib Group job candidate accounts.
nib is recommending any person who has applied online for a position within the nib Group since April 2016 to check for any unusual activity concerning their personal information.
